Some More Music Recommendations

As we close out the 2025-2026 financial year, here are three songs curated by Imma, that have been hitting our dance floor for the last few months.

ALLÁ TÚ (feat. Raciel Garces Espinosa) by La Liga Habanera

A lot of funky rhythms in this one !  Plenty of hits and pauses to style up your dance.

Mirala by Roly Maden

Lots of strong beats and a good tempo for beginners. Roly Maden is a renowned choreographer, dancer, and artist known for his expertise in Cuban folk dances, including hip hop, salsa, and rumba.

En Guayabero by Aymée Nuviola

A classic song composed by Faustino Oramas Osorio and first recorded by Pacho Alonso in the 1940s. This song is a significant piece in the Cuban music repertoire.

Aymée was born January 8, 1973 in Havana, Cuba. She is a Cuban singer, pianist, composer and actress, nicknamed “La Sonera del Mundo” the first female to lead a Timba band around the world.

Camila Cabello – “Havana” ft. Young Thug

I heard this song just the other day, and I can’t stop listening to it. It makes me think of the slow-paced hot humid days in Havana spent sipping a mojito (who am kidding – I never sip a mojito!), trying to sort out the conflicting sounds of at least 5 sources of music no matter where you are and taking in the organised chaos of the locals going about their day.

Mayimbe – Intro del Mayimbe

For those of you who have been attending classes recently you would have heard us playing this song pretty regularly – it is Pip and Nick’s current favourite! We love the build up then the explosion of brass, and then it just keeps pushing along.

Pupy y los que son son : Mi Timba “Cerra”

Pupy y los que son son : Mi Timba “Cerra” encapsulates a style of Cuban Salsa called “timba”. This style of salsa has a jazz flavour, with the drum kit as part of the  percussion lineup. “Pupy” was the keyboard player for the famous “Los Van Van” and if you like them, this album will not disappoint.  Blending the charanga feel of strings, full vocal corros, with more modern sounds this finely crafted album has a great balance of pumping dance-floor power and relaxed lean-against-the bar listening.
